Mask Policy

To protect our vulnerable patients and staff, please ensure to wear a mask if you have any respiratory symptoms when attending the practice.

Doctor Visit Card

As you may be aware in 2023 the government announced the expansion of free GP care to all children under the age of 8 and to households earning below the new median income threshold.

Eligible current practice patients can now apply as follows:

  • If your child is aged 6 or 7, you can apply online for a Doctor Visit Card.

  • If your household earns below the median income (€47,000 per year after deductibles) you can apply online for a Doctor Visit Card.

Please note that all patients applying for a new Doctor Visit Card are asked to apply to the below GPs in the practice. This will not affect your choice of GP to attend but will help us to manage our patient lists effectively.

· Dr Sharon McDonald Panel No. 52350

· Dr. Marese Murphy Panel No. 53588

About

About Clann Medical Centre

Clann Medical Centre is a modern family practice in Portlaoise with an experienced team of doctors, nurses and administration staff who offer high quality, evidence based, caring and confidential healthcare to meet all of your family’s needs.

We offer a wide variety of medical services to medical card and private patients. We also are covered under the Garda doctor of choice scheme.

Our mission is to deliver holistic patient care with kindness, compassion and respect whilst providing a healthy and supportive working environment for our staff.

We care passionately about maintaining the existing high standard of GP services in the Midlands.

For many years we have been involved in the education of medical students who may visit the practice to observe consultations. We always advise patients in advance if a student is present and will only invite a student to observe your consultation with your full permission.

We are also a GP training practice with the HSE Midlands specialist training scheme in General Practice. This means that we have the pleasure of welcoming a new GP Registrar every year to complete their specialist training in General Practice. These trainees are qualified experienced doctors.

We are also mentors for the Irish College of GPs International Medical Graduate program.

New Patients

Due to ever increasing demand, we are currently operating at near full capacity.

To ensure that we can continue to provide safe and timely care for our existing patients, from time to time we need to close our lists to new patients.

If you are interested in becoming a patient, please contact a member of our administration team to discuss the current situation.
